Tell us something about your job? What is it like working as R&D Manager?
I started working in Rosendahl Nextrom nearly 15 years ago as a mechanical engineer. I did mechanical engineering almost 10 years and from 2018 my job position was changed to R&D manager.
As a mechanical engineer my main responsibilities were in fiber optic cable machinery side.
Currently as a R&D manager I am responsible for R&D activities in FO business unit in Vantaa, Finland location. R&D manager position in Vantaa consist of many different interesting responsibilities. Managing the R&D projects is one of the main responsibilities. We have many development projects every year from small to big which keeps me always busy 😊. Second important responsibility is our R&D centers in Vantaa location. We have four R&D centers (Preform, Draw, Post Draw and FOC), where we have great opportunity to develop our processes and machines to even higher level. For R&D centers daily operations we have an own team, led by R&D operations manager who is reporting to me. Budgeting topics keeps me also busy few times a year when we are preparing either new fiscal year budget or forecast budget for current year. One of my responsibilities is also to be contact person and responsible for invention and patent matters in Vantaa. I also have side role as a supervisor for the sales system admin team. So my daily work can vary a lot depending on the is it related to for example projects, budget, R&D centers, patents or other 😊.
What is the best part of working for Nextrom?
Best part of working at Nextrom are the colleagues and the friendly environment. Working with fiber optic machines is very interesting and educational. At Nextrom you have also great opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills.
What are your hobbies?
I have always been very interested and enthusiastic in sports. I really like to watch and try many kinds of sports. When I was younger, I played football for many years. Five years ago, I fell in love in golf. Nowadays a big part of my summer free time goes on the golf course. Other active hobbies are tennis and running.
Music is also close to my heart. I have played several years bass but not so actively anymore. Playing music is nice way to relax and fresh your mind. So occasionally I still dig my bass out of the bag and play. Playing music is so much fun!
